only the hootie and the blowfish could write a song that begins with a line like that. how power. last night, a fellow shalom resident came up to my room to steal some songs off my computer via her usb drive. i always enjoy passing ppl songs from my collection, i suppose you could compare it enjoying a good bottle of vintage red wine with good friends. anyway, as the night went on, i slowly began to learn her taste for music, and learnt that it was pretty similar to mine. with this discovery, i deemed her worthy enough to share my secret stash of untold treasures with, namely my collection of cds. after listening to a few gems here and there, we finally stumbled across one of my three cds of hootie and the blowfish, and from the first song she was hooked. ah, hootie.
which brings us to this entry. this is a tribute to the band hootie and the blowfish. i know that there aren't many diehard fans like me out there anymore, so i am taking it upon myself to continue passing on the torch and the knowledge of the legacy that is hootie and the blowfish. i first discovered hootie during my secondary school days, with their first album 'cracked rear view'. admittedly they were a wee bit commercial then, but thankfully so if not i would have never heard of them. the initial hits that were burning up the radio waves then were 'let her cry', 'only want to be with you', and 'hold my hand'. but their true brilliance shone through in the other tracks in the cd, and i was hooked. only with hootie, can you feel the hurt and angst with every word sung by their lead vocalist darius rucker, can you identify with the emotions behind the lyrics that hit you like a bus, or can you literally rise and fall with every tone or guitar rift. i can remember each and every song that i chose to listen to whenever i lost a tennis match, or got my heart broken, or when i just wanted to dance alone in my room, and hootie never disappointed me. give it a try peoples, and i hope that their songs make you feel the same way that they make me. that being said, i leave you with the lyrics from one of their more powerful concoctions:
