i was reading a review of this movie by someone from the rolling stone magazine, and there was a line from it that i found that described this movie best: 'i find myself unable to strongly recommend this movie to anyone, but yet at the same time i will be the last person to discourage anyone from watching it.' i went to watch this masterpiece of a movie with a group of ppl from college who came along based on my recommendation (some of them fell asleep during the show) but at the film's end i was smiling from ear to ear, captivated and enamored with its magic.
you see, although the life aquatic may not appeal to everyone out there, it is at least original. these days i find myself struggling with the quality of films out there, with all the romantic comedies ('the princess diaries 2'?? they made a bloody sequel??) and summer blockbusters ('the pacifier'?? oh vin, the shame..). they're seriously running out of ideas in hollywood, and with this movie wes anderson provides honest movie lovers with a much needed dose of fresh air. he provides a conduit to allow us to venture into the realms of his imagination, and what an imagination. from the quirky but envious life of dr. steve zissou (bill murray) as he feeds killer whales in his backyard and films glowing jellyfish on the beach under the moonlight, to the amazing scene where he films a conversation between bill murray and owen wilson that runs from room to room in the boat like you were looking at a huge dollhouse, he lets the viewer escape into world so engaging and eccentric at the same time.
so, if you actually read this review and make the effort to watch this show, just remember that it can become an incredible journey, but only if you let yourself. enjoy! | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Comedy |
I actually watched this movie almost a full month ago, and some of the scenes were so funny that they're still vivid in my mind. This light-hearted comedy is the perfect kind of movie to watch after the exams, where you don't want to watch anything heavy and just need the right amount of pick-me-up to keep the happiness and relief buzzing. anyway. this movie reminds me of 'stand by me', where the movie focuses around a bunch of boys on a camping trip and the misadventures that follow. watch it, you won't regret it, although you'll never be able to listen to the culture club's 'do you really want to hurt me' the same way again. :) | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Romantic Comedy |
"Catcher Block? Ladies' man, Mans' man, Man about town?" lovely but largely unknown romantic comedy starring ewan mcgregor and renee zellweger set in the 60's... if you're ever in one of those moods where you want to just chill out in front of the television and watch a movie that makes you feel good but doesn't insult your intelligence too much (see: 'harold and kumar go to white castle' and 'euro trip' - hilarious shows but for a different mood), then this is the movie for you. plus it's a visual buffet for those with an appetite for fashion, revisiting the elegance of breakfast at tiffany's to the style and pure cool of the rat pack. hope you guys will enjoy it as much as i did :)
